Preservations is a collection of natural materials from around the Talvivaara mine. Gathering and preserving plants, berries and fish is an instinctive, age old way of feeling with and through the natural landscape. In the case of a deeply polluted site, the contradiction between instinct, knowledge and the visual information is emotionally disorienting. Preserving becomes an act of collecting materials which can no longer be safely consumed, preserving observations and the emotions whilst the materials become a memory of what they have been.
